Thank you for sharing your story and experiences in life that teach grace filled truths we all need to think about. I’m 76 and had a serious fall in 2023 that could have caused me to have my right leg amputated at the knee. Thankfully I didn’t have my leg amputated but I have chronic pain and mobility issues. Gratitude for each day of life has become a motivating factor in how I live.
Wow! I’m so sorry to hear that. Falls at our stage of life can be life threatening. I’m sorry you have to deal the pain and mobility issues but glad you can still have a heart of gratitude.
What an experience, James! Hadn’t read the details before now.
I remember feeling depressed at 30, never having thought I’d get that “old”! At forty I felt I’d turned a corner on a city block and could nearly see the second half of my life far down the way.
Fifty was a happy celebration with dear friends, family crowding into our home on a freezing cold day in January, gathering around the piano to sing and celebrate. We couldn’t flow to the back family room because the newly lit fire had smoke pouring down the chimney, icy air preventing it from drafting upwards!
In my early sixties my husband fled his battle with a rare, indolent blood cancer and died after 11 years of a multitude of treatments. I kept working as a nurse-educator 5 more years, then retired and moved to a 4- room condo “out east” on Long Island.
Suddenly I’m 79 and 1/2 having gone through depression and multiple surgeries with complications first (originally brought on by a rift in an important relationship in my family and severance from my grandsons). It’s much deeper than that, really, but details not called for here…
After counseling, healing, and a large weight loss (now 60lbs) I spent last year traveling to visit old, dear friends and just returned from a glorious CS Lewis tour of Belfast and Oxford!
This last was worth every penny (CSLewis tour guides for CSL Institute and top professors from here and in UK were a joy to hear!)
This last was my gift to myself for my upcoming 80th birthday and I thank my Lord for such a long-desired opportunity!
“Further up and further in!” (From “The Last Battle”)
Psalm 139 - “…all our days were written in His book before there was one of them “.
I pray you live many more years to share what you have discovered in your brush with death/eternity!
Hoping to post some short essays/stories from my many years of God’s shepherding soon. Wanting to stay child-like in my faith, but retaining God’s wisdom from long years and Scriptures.

Blessings to you, too! Hope our paths cross again someday.

Wow! What a story. Talk about a roller coaster ride. The C.S. Lewis tour must have been wonderful. Great to hear from you!
